Five Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner Isn't Cooling Your Residence

When it’s a hot summer morning in Huntsville, nothing is worse than recognizing your home comfort system isn’t operating the way it is meant to. The last thing you want to do is schedule air conditioner help. But your air conditioner is a fairly involved system, so it can be challenging to find out what’s driving the trouble without training.

That’s why All Weather Heating & Air Conditioning Inc created this informational guide to help you understand what may be happening with your AC. From here, you’ll learn a few prevailing reasons your space is feeling too warm. And even though a few of these are fairly painless DIY activities, you may have to find a pro for HVAC repair.

And if that’s the case, All Weather Heating & Air Conditioning Inc is ready to assist. Here are five reasons why your air conditioner may not be cooling your house in Huntsville.

1. Your System Settings May Be Off

Every home adjusts their thermostat a touch differently to work with their individual requirements. Even so, many homeowners make the misstep of setting their system to “On” as opposed to “Auto.” Under this setting, the fan in your air conditioner will continue to produce an air current even after you’ve attained your set temperature.

This can come off like your AC is blowing out untreated air, when in fact it’s only employing the fan on a more regular basis than required. Swap this setting and find out if things change.

2. Your HVAC Needs a Good Cleaning

There are two main spaces to examine for dirt or dust accumulation when your air conditioner doesn’t appear to be functioning right.

Firstly, inspect your system’s filter. If you don’t change your filter on a regular basis, built-up dust can make it more challenging for air to travel through and cool your home. If your filter is noticeably dirty or dusty, it’s definitely time for a change. (And in general, you need to switch it about once every three months at a minimum.)

If your filter is looking fine, move to your outside unit. Find out if there’s a couple of feet of space around it and sweep away plants or dirt stuck there. This section of your AC lets off the heat from within your rooms. If the coils outside are congested, you won’t be feeling comfortable in your home.

We recommend booking professional air conditioner maintenance yearly to keep your equipment operating properly and to keep your warranty valid.

3. Your AC is Leaking Refrigerant

Refrigerant is the substance that conditions the air in your space. It cycles between your internal and outside system pieces to absorb and let out heat, to help your home stay cool. If there is a crack along that system, you won’t be feeling comfortable again until you book professional air conditioning repair.

Signs of a refrigerant leak include a decline in cooled air, climbing electric bills, frozen evaporator coils and unusual hissing noises originating from your system.

If you are worried refrigerant might be leaking, call All Weather Heating & Air Conditioning Inc for air conditioner repair as soon as possible. Refrigerant can also be damaging to your family’s health.

4. One or More Pieces Need to Be Replaced

Your AC contains a couple important elements. These include the blower, evaporator coils, compressor, fan, condenser coils and expansion valve. If one part is broken, your home comfort is hurt.

Our All Weather Heating & Air Conditioning Inc technicians are trained and experienced in HVAC. They can help you diagnose and fix any issue.

5. Your AC Needs to Be Replaced

If your air conditioner is upward of 10 years old, it could likely be time to think about new air conditioner installation. As your system puts on the years, it simply won’t run as well as it once did. And it could be making your place less comfortable.

If your system is on the younger side but still isn’t properly cooling your home, it could be undersized for your home. Air conditioners are not all the same. An air conditioner that’s not powerful enough simply can’t chill a house the way a properly sized air conditioner can.
