The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce due to its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Huntsville because it’ll help make your cooling system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was made prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally phased out. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at All Weather Heating & Air Conditioning Inc work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump more suited to your needs. Be sure to avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
